The Influence of Speaking Proficiency of Teachers and Students on Their Self-Assurance in English Language and Literature Preparation
Abstract
Establishing self-assurance is crucial prior to commencing any endeavour, but this is especially true when working with a non-native language. Engaging in conversation requires self-assurance due to the fact that speaking is the sole form of linguistic proficiency required for effective correspondence. The purpose of this research is to determine whether self-confidence is correlated with the amount of progress a student makes in the speaking portion of an English language teaching (ELT) or English language and literature (ELL) departmental course. Furthermore, an examination is necessary to ascertain whether these disciplines exhibit an inadequate amount of female representation, and the conclusions are derived in a suitable manner. A total of seventy-seven male and female pre-college students, representing various academic disciplines, took part in the study throughout the autumn term of 2014-2015. Each individual made the decision to enrol in English language instruction. The individuals who participated in the association study were administered the Self-Consideration Questionnaire (SCQ). The Statistical Package for the Social Sciences (SPSS) version 20.0 was utilised to analyse the collated quantitative data. The t-test for independent samples and the Pearson product-moment correlation coefficient were both employed to analyse the gathered data. A correlation of 0.01% indicates that there is a statistically significant association between confidence and the capacity to deliver speeches in front of an audience. The results do not indicate gender differences in public speaking accomplishments, despite notable departmental variations. The influence of an individual's gender on their confidence is significantly greater than that of the work environment.
